WEDLI 2007 Madelyn Orsini Award Winner

Stony Brook resident, Michelle Davis, was named winner of the Madelyn Orsini award by The Women Economic Developers of Long Island. Ms. Davis, whose GPA is 3.9, will complete her undergraduate career in ‘07/’08 as a senior at Marist College where her major is biology with a minor in psychology. Her goal is to obtain a PhD in the subject area of gene therapy. Michelle took part in the Undergraduate Summer Research Program through Stony Brook University’s Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology headed up by Professor Carol Carter. It is through this program that she was singled out for the award

WEDLI 2007 Sally Slacke-Dorothy Tripp Award Winner

Baldwin business owner, Gwen Jackson recently was named the winner of the Tripp/Slacke award for entrepreneurial excellence. Jackson, is owner of Florosa Homework Center, an establishment that has been in business four years, providing academic support to students in grades K-12. The Center helps local area students individually and in small groups with homework and private tutoring in all subjects. Students come from the villages such as Freeport, Roosevelt and Hempstead as well as Baldwin. No student is ever turned away due to inability to pay. The cash award will be used to expand the Center’s student base. This award is given by The Women Economic Developers of Long Island (WEDLI) through a grant from members Roslyn D. Goldmacher and Judith Beckman.

Farmingdale. The WEDLI award will
help her continue working to obtain a
bachelor's degree in Accounting.

 The Sally Slacke-Dorothy Tripp Award 2006
The Sally Slacke-Dorothy Tripp Award, provided by Roz Goldmacher, Judith Beckman and Ilene Krupnick, in honor of two deceased WEDLI members, was awarded to Lisa Hunter. Lisa will apply her award to fund further training with Hofstra's Entrepreneurial Program. This will aid her in the start-up of V2K Window Decor & More, a franchise window covering business. On hand for the presentation were (L-R) Richard Tripp, son of Dorothy Tripp; Lynn Burch, daughter of Sally Slacke; Lisa Hunter; Roz Goldmacher and Judith Beckman.

DYNAMIC ENTREPRENEUR WINS AWARD 2004 WINNER
Michelle Castro (2nd R) is a success minded dynamo who juggles motherhood and her business, Hair Design by Michelle in Amityville, a salon specializing in haircare, cosmetic sales and fashion jewelry. "We chose Michelle as the recipient of the Dorothy Tripp-Sally Slacke award because she demonstrates the positive attitudes that go into making a success," says Roslyn D. Goldmacher (R), President & CEO Long Island Development Corp., co-founder of the award that honors the memory of two of Long Island's most famous business women.

"This award recognizes the desire and the will to succeed that was the hallmark of both Dorothy and Sally," says Judith K. Beckman (L) of Financial Solutions/Goldner Siegfried Associates, Inc., co-founder of the award fund." The award was made in conjunction with the Women Economic Developers of Long Island (WEDLI) at the Heckscher Museum in Huntington at WEDLI's annual installation dinner. Michele Pincus ((2nd L) is WEDLI's new president.
