A summer research program in science, mathematics
or engineering at an accredited institution of higher
education on Long Island in summer, 2008, that also
helps participants appreciate the career opportunities
in a related industry sector on Long Island.

B.
An institutionally-approved internship undertaken
in the course of pursuing an academic program at an
accredited institution of higher education on Long
Island, in summer, 2008, or during the 2008-2009 academic
year, provided that the internship sponsor conducts
its activities in a field whose relationship to economic
development can be demonstrated, that the internship
has an economic development purpose, and that the
terms of the internship do not provide for monetary
compensation.
Applicants for either award should
be planning to enter the junior or senior year of
full-time study in fall, 2008.
Applicants for the WEDLI Orsini
Summer Research Fellowship Award must demonstrate
that they have applied to the undergraduate summer
research program of their choice and must provide
confirmation of their acceptance into the program
to receive the Award. Applicants for the WEDLI Orsini
Internship Award must demonstrate that they have applied
for an institutionally-approved, unpaid internship
and must provide confirmation of their acceptance
for the internship in order to receive the Award.

Applicants should complete and return
the appropriate application form, with a letter of
recommendation from a faculty adviser, and should
arrange for an official transcript to be mailed separately,

Finalists for these awards will
be asked to provide confirmation of their acceptance
into their chosen summer research program, or summer
